Letter of Waiver

To Whom It May Concern:

The Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC) advises its members not to sign inappropriate waivers to participate in travel media events.

TMAC encourages its members to get fully involved with destinations; to explore, to probe and to understand the heart and soul of each trip or activity on which they are invited and on which they may submit articles for publication.

It is understood that some travel activities, such as river rafting, bungee jumping and snowmobiling are considered 'high risk', and it would be appropriate to expect any participant, whether a member of the media or the public, to sign a waiver, acknowledging any potential risk.

However, it is not appropriate to require members of the media to sign waivers for press tours, events or activities that are not considered high risk and would not generally require a waiver signed by a member of the public, participating in the same type of activity. Some examples might include flying in an airplane, eating lunch at a hotel, and travelling in a charter or rental vehicle.

TMAC urges travel industry hosts who invite TMAC members on trips, events or activities, to do so in the spirit of education, experience, understanding and fairness.
