June 2004 - St Petersburg Clearwater CVB

"Florida's Beach" at the Ball Game event on Thursday June 24, 2004 went very well with 75 attendees - a mix of travel writers, industry, suppliers and tour operators/local media.

The guests enjoyed a Florida mimosa cocktail upon arrival followed by some munching and mingling before welcome remarks were made by Toby Saltzman (Ontario Chapter President), Kimberly Hartley-McMurray and With Tuttell (St. Petersburg/Clearwater CVB) and Jeff Clauss ( PIE airport manager). A very special appearance from Mr. Paul Godfrey delighted everyone. Mr. Godfrey addressed the group and was most complimentary about the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area since the Jays spring train in Dunedin and will continue to do so for the next 15 years at least. After the national anthems, the buffet lunch opened and the baseball started between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Ace, the Jays' mascot, visited us for some photos, and then we hosted some draw prizes, the grand prize being a trip for two to St. Petersburg on Jetsgo and three nights accommodation at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort. Ron Kroll won the prize and is excited about planning a press trip around his stay to the area.

Everyone left with a large sandpail full of goodies in hand, some media info and a smile on their faces.

It was certainly a good time had by all!!
