These free online forums were created to
make professional development opportunities available to TMAC members
across the country, regardless of where they live. They will operate
through a unique Web site that will be accessed by TMAC members only.
Each forum will focus on a single topic and be a distinct one-time
event that begins on a Monday at 9 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time) and
end on the Friday of the same week at 6 p.m.
There will be an ongoing record of all
postings so that if someone joins the forum part way through s/he can
see and refer to previous postings. During the forum, private messages
and e-mails can be sent to forum members from within the forum. This
will increase networking and information-sharing. Once the forum ends,
it will no longer exist online.
An experienced moderator with expertise
will lead each forum and direct the discussion, giving it greater
direction, structure and information sharing than is usually found on
an open listserve. This is not a discussion board, but rather more of a
"webinar."
The Moderator will:
-
Initiate the forum by giving an overview
of the issue being discussed during the week and what the forum will
attempt to accomplish;
-
Provide
a few "discussion starter" questions to focus the discussion
initially;
-
Suggest some background information Web
sites would be especially useful) that forum members can study in
advance of the forum or during the discussion;
-
When necessary, give a brief overview of
terminology or define other terms of reference pertinent to the
topic.
TMAC members who want to participate in the
forum will be asked to sign up and receive a password from the
administrator. Then they can join the forum discussion via
www.armbell.com/tmacmedia. Members can
also register online using the “register” button on the Web site, but
their account won’t be activated until the administrator has granted
them access to the forum. This security feature prevents a non-member
having access to this forum. Forum/discussion posts do not come into
TMAC members’ "home" e-mail inboxes. Members need only register once
to the forum. Their account will be active as long as they’re a
member.
