Fitness Levels

Low – I can undertake light activity such as walking with a slight incline, leisurely cycling along a mainly flat route, and whale watching in an open vessel.
Moderate – I can walk/run five kilometres, I can walk up six flights of stairs, I can cycle 10 kilometres and I am comfortable kayaking for an hour.
High – I regularly engage in sports such as long-distance running, weight training, mountain biking, hiking steep inclines and/or competitive team sports like soccer or hockey.
Extreme – I regularly engage in extreme adventure sports such as rock climbing, kite surfing, triathlons and marathons.

All tours will depart from the Holiday Inn Sudbury at 12:30 p.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise specified

1 . Tour #1: Science North

Explore Canada’s second largest science centre and winner of Ontario Tourism’s Attraction of the Year. Four floors of science fun for all ages. Science North’s fun and friendly hands-on approach to science education is led by Bluecoats (real scientists and science communicators) who make interacting with the exhibits and live ambassador animals even more informative and fun!

2 . Tour #2: Dynamic Earth

Descend seven storeys underground to walk in the footsteps of Sudbury's miners. This guided tour takes you through our demonstration mine to discover the evolution of mining in the region, from the turn of the century to modern mining.

Closed toe shoes required.

3 . Tour #3: Lake Laurentian Conservation Sudbury

The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area offers 2,415 acres of protected green space just minutes from the downtown area scattered with trails ranging in difficulty. The Conservation Area is a multi-use trail network along Lake Laurentian that is used both by hikers and bikers in the summer, and also offers great scenic lookouts.Experience the conservation area on land and water, hop in a canoe and tour Lake Laurentian, learn about the biodiversity in the area then hike up to the 360 lookout across the lake.

Cameras are encouraged for viewpoints and wildlife photo opportunities. Dress in comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes. Wear sturdy shoes/boots. Bring hat, sunscreen, water, bugspray and a small backpack if you have one. Binoculars optional.

4 . Tour #4: Group of Seven Plein Air Painting Excursion

Hosted by the Art Gallery of Sudbury, head up to the A.Y. Jackson Lookout over Onaping Falls.Experience the rich history of the area and the Group of Seven Painters.Visit the very spot the Group of Seven member A.Y.Jackson was inspired for his piece.Learn to paint en plein air and take home a masterpiece guided by an Art Gallery of Sudbury artist/educator (no painting experience required)

Please wear weather appropriate clothing (layers), good walking shoes or athletic shoes. Flip flops and sandals are NOT recommended. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, a small knapsack and a garbage bag to bring back all personal garbage.

5 . Tour #5: 40+ Years of Regreening

The Sudbury landscape isn’t what is used to be; from barren rock to lush forests.  Experience the healing of the Greater Sudbury landscape and celebrate 40+ years of Regreening success.  Guided by scientists who lead the Regreening project, you will visit notable sites across the city that will allow first hand comparison of industrial impacted barren landscapes to those that were treated and are in various stages of recovery.   Walk in Jane Goodall’s footsteps on the Jane Goodall Reclamation Trail, named after internationally renowned scientist and environmentalist who opened the trail in 2002 and has left an inspiring impact on Greater Sudbury.

Appropriate footwear for walking on trails and weather appropriate clothing recommended.

6 . Tour #6: Downtown Sudbury Walking Tour

A little mix of everything – art, music, food!   Bring an appetite to sample some of Sudbury’s favourite cafés and restaurants along the way.

10 . Tour #10: Ramsey Lake Tour 

Ramsey Lake is the second largest city-contained lake in the world.Walk the scenic boardwalk that wraps the shores of Ramsey Lake.Pass through the beloved Bell Park to Science North, with a few delightful surprises along the way before boarding the William Ramsey cruise to cap off the afternoon.

Proper walking shoes recommended.

11 . Tour #11: Golf Sudbury

Enjoy an afternoon of golf at Timberwolf Golf Club.Professionally designed by world renowned golf course architect Thomas McBroom, the vast layout gives the player an almost overwhelming sense of solitude as each hole provides spacious seclusion from the others. Golfers will experience the feeling of having the entire course to themselves.

Mr. McBroom has done a masterful job creating great golf holes while also providing a wonderful tour through the wilderness of Northern Ontario. Streams and wetlands, stunning rock outcrops, thousands of white birch and wildlife of every shape and size adorn the layout with their natural splendor.

You must have a sound knowledge of golf.

12 . Tour #12: Northern Ontario Railroad Museum

Discover rich railroad history at the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre. The Northern Ontario Railroad Museum exhibits relics from the early 1900s. It provides a historical account of the mining and lumber industry and how the railroad affected its prosperity. The museum is located within a historically designated museum house built in 1916 and was the former CN superintendent’s residence.
