For Immediate Release - August 4, 2022
TMAC Welcomes 2022-23 Board of Directors

Canada’s only national travel media association, the Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC), is guided by an annually elected Board of Directors consisting of both Media and Industry Members, from across Canada. On July 20, 2022 the 2022-23 National Board effectively took office at their initial board meeting.

Building on the momentum of last year, priority will remain focused on continuing to nurture, serve and expand membership and relationships within the tourism industry. Collaborations with the Tourism Industry Association of Canada and Destination Canada will be expanded and further developed, with additional opportunities, nationally and internationally, being pursued.

With a diverse and healthy membership exceeding 350, 2022-23 will be an important year as tourism continues to emerge from the impacts of COVID-19. Expanding awareness of and demand for TMAC accredited travel media members will be top of mind, and just as importantly, acknowledgement of the role travel media serves within the economic recovery of not only tourism within Canada but internationally.

Accepting the responsibility for 2022-23 Board of Directors are 11 TMAC Members from across Canada, including:
Executive:

Tracy Ford (Industry), President, with Chelsea Hotel Toronto
Paul Knowles (Media), Vice President, Freelancer/Columnist
Grant Fraser (Media), Treasurer, with Flagstick
Judi Cohen (Media), Secretary, with Traveling Judi

Directors at Large:

Yashy Murphy (Media) with Parenting To Go
Mark Stevens (Media) with Travel Write Click
Rod Charles (Media) with Vacay.ca
Wendy Nordvik-Carr (Media) with Life's Incredible Journey
Pam Wamback (Industry) with Tourism Nova Scotia
Jerry Grymek (Industry) with LMA Communications
Pierre Santoni (Industry)
 with VIA Rail Canada

Organizationally, the year ahead will be guided by a number of operational priorities, including undertaking a Strategic Plan, and the completion of the media member re-qualification before end of 2022. The much anticipated annual TMAC Awards program will be reviewed and offered in 2023, as will the very successful National PD schedule. Planning is already well underway for the 2023 TMAC Conference to be hosted in Sudbury, Ontario, June 14-17.

Supporting the achievement of these initiatives within fiscal capacities, the Board of Directors has established and facilitates the work of several National Board Committees, including:

  • Awards
  • Communications
  • Conference
  • Finance
  • Future Host (Conference)
  • Governance
  • Membership
  • National Professional Development
  • Sponsorship

Committees have begun meeting to review their roles for 2022-23 and will be providing their deliverables for review and approval at the September board meeting.

Regionally, TMAC’s Chapters are an extension of the National Board, curating a program that enhances connections, communication and engagement. Guided by their own Board of Directors, based on geographic regions, TMAC consists of the following Chapters:

  • BC & Yukon
  • Prairies & Northwest Territories
  • Ontario
  • Atlantic Canada (inclusive of Quebec)
