  2. 2023-24 Preferred Presenter/Trainer Call for Proposals Professional Development Training for Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC) Members


OVERVIEW

TMAC is a Canadian not-for-profit association serving industry and media travel professionals. 

Founded in 1994, TMAC represents Canada’s most professional and productive experts in the field of travel. The Association currently has more than 350 accredited members — Canadian travel media professionals consisting of storytellers across all channels of communication, from writers, photographers, videographers, bloggers, and social media content creators, as well as highly respected marketing leaders in the travel industry from Canada around the world. 

Each year, TMAC members gather for a dynamic, wide-ranging annual conference to exchange story ideas, explore new destinations, and keep up to date on skills, trends, and techniques. Throughout the year, TMAC National and their regional chapters from across Canada hold a series of local events, activities, presentations, and professional development sessions attended by both media and industry members.

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Profession Development Committee of TMAC is currently seeking expressions of interest from our membership and professionals to meet the needs of our varied members in two (2) capacities: 

1. 2023 TMAC Conference Workshop Leaders
Date: June 16 – 17, 2023
Location: Sudbury, Ontario
Theme: “Getting Down to Business”
NOTE: Presenters interested in applying, must be available to deliver the sessions in person in Sudbury.  
                   

TMAC represents Canada's most highly regarded professional and productive travel experts in the industry. This year's conference professional development sessions will focus on the business of being a travel media professional. It will provide insights, best practices and advice to set us up not just as highly qualified travel professionals but as successful business operators too.

Our PD sessions will take place on the afternoon of June 16 between 3:30-4:30 p.m. and the morning of June 17 between 10:30-11:30 a.m. Presenters interested in leading these sessions will need to be available to address the topics as outlined below on dates provided, in person, in Sudbury. 

We are currently looking for workshop leaders for two (2) 60-minute conference sessions (Presentations are 45 minutes, followed by a 15 minutes of Q & A):

  • Session 1: Building Brand
    All our members can benefit from understanding the importance of developing a strategic brand.
    In this session:
    - Participants will gain tips and insights on how to build a brand that will support their travel media related business.
     
  • Session 2: Good Pitch Bad Pitch: Both Sides Discuss What Gets Accepted and Why
    Industry members and content creators need to know how to craft a powerful pitch for success.
    In this session:
    - Participants will find out what both media and industry partners want to see in a pitch with good and bad examples.
    - What do decision makers need to know, to say yes to working with you?
    - How should a destination pitch to a digital platform?
    - How to negotiate the best rate.

Expressions of interest for Conference 2023 Workshop Leaders are due by 11:59 p.m. EST, February 1, 2023.

  3. Description of presentation (Please use plain language and include a description of the clear learning deliverables as they relate to the session goals).
  4. Please include/attach your bio and/or media kit. Include job title, organizational affiliation, areas of interest, recent work, etc.
  5. Expectation of remuneration, if any.


2. 2023 – 2024 Preferred Presenters List
Hosting a series of Professional Development Sessions via Zoom throughout the year in addition to our in-person program at our Conference, we are curating a directory of preferred trainers/presenters. Our Professional Development sessions may be delivered in-person or virtually and may be offered in large or small group settings.

PD Session/Workshop topics should be either a fundamental, intermediate, or advanced level and must be relevant to members’ needs around professional development. We welcome other topic proposals that will be of interest and benefit to our members.

  • Publishing
  • Freelance Business Development/Management
  • Marketing and Creating Good Campaigns
  • Interviewing Techniques
  • Pitching
  • Tourism/Travel Industry and Emerging Trends
  • Regenerative Tourism
  • Video Development & Photography
  • Social Media Strategies & Insights
  • Website & SEO
  • Monetizing Your Website


Please note, inclusion on the 2023-2024 Preferred Presenters /Trainers List does not guarantee that applicants will be contracted to deliver training. Training events offered by TMAC are based on the needs of our membership. The Preferred Trainer’s List will be the primary resources for selecting training facilitators; however, TMAC reserves the right to solicit proposals from outside the list if a suitable presenter is unavailable.

Selection of proposal(s) for the 2023-2024 Preferred Trainers List will be based on the experience and qualifications of the trainer, previous body of work, the relevance of the proposed training session(s), and the proposed session costs. TMAC reserves the right to make the final selection.

NOTE:
By submitting a proposal in response to this Call for Expressions of Interest, it is understood that you may be contacted by TMAC to provide more information on your submission, however only those applicants selected for further consideration will be contacted.

The Preferred Trainers List will be developed by TMAC and successful applicants notified no later than February 28, 2023.
